The dishwasher does not drain water

The dishwasher does not drain water

If the dishwasher does not drain the water, you must drain the accumulated liquid manually. To do this, carefully disconnect the hose and lower it into the sink. If such a problem occurs, a filter replacement is usually required. Trained appliance repair professionals also recommend checking the serviceability of the drain pump, namely the rotation of the impeller and the presence of small household garbage and food debris.

The most unpleasant thing that can cause the dishwasher machine to refuse to drain the water is the burnout of the electronic control module or pump. Such malfunctions require professional dishwasher repair services in Toronto to be fixed.

Why the dishwasher doesn’t drain the water

All the drain-related problems can be divided into two groups. The first group is about all kinds of blockages, and the second assumes a breakdown (malfunction) of some dishwasher unit. Below follows the list of all reasons for draining malfunction:

  • The drain hose is bent in someplace, so the water can not leave the device physically. It is enough to straighten it and try to turn on the dishwasher again. Such a commonplace problem rarely happens.
  • The coarse filter clogged. Do not neglect a simple rule: clean the dishes from food residues before loading. Small bones, tissue remnants, and other debris will clog the filter holes preventing water from leaving the chamber.
  • The drainage areas were blocked. Food residues that have slipped through the filter can create a blockage anywhere in the drain system, for example in fittings, drain hose or pump.
  • The pump burned out.
  • Defective pressure switch.
  • The control module has broken.

In Bosch dishwashers from the SRV, SRS, or SKF series, some models allow detecting the problem with draining only at the end of the program. In the middle of the cycle, the machine does not drain the water but continues to wash the dishes in the wastewater. But when it finishes and you open the door, you will see that there is still water in the chamber. Some dishwasher models may stop in the middle of the program displaying the word END which indicates an error.

If the dishwasher does not drain the water, first, disconnect it from the mains. Next, inspect the unit for blockages, it is best to start with the drain hose. Disconnect it from the sewer and lower it into a bucket, if water has gone, then the sewer is clogged. If the water doesn’t go, look for a blockage inside the dishwasher. A simple possible dishwasher repair is cleaning the filters. Here’s what to do:

  • open the door and take out the baskets;
  • unscrew the lid of the filter located at the bottom of the tank of the dishwashing machine and pull out the filter bowl;
  • then pull out the mesh;
  • clean the “glass” and the mesh under running water, using a toothbrush and dishwashing detergent if necessary;
  • then unscrew the lid of the drain pump and carefully check with your finger how the impeller rotates, perhaps debris has also got into it, be careful, as not only seeds from fruits can get there, but also small fragments from dishes;
  • close the pump;
  • put the filter back in place.

If, after starting the dishwasher, the water is still not draining, it means that you need to look for the cause in the internal parts and, above all, in the pump. This work should be done by a professional technician delivering reliable dishwasher repairs in the Toronto area.
